How to commission a new work
Most people have a favorite composer when asked, like Beethoven or Bach, but may not know that there is a vibrant community of living composers making new music today. Most often, we hear new classical music when we go see a movie, watch T.V., or play a video game.
However, it's very simple to commission a piece of new music for any occasion (Birthday or Wedding) or just to support the creation of new music by hosting a house concert for friends and family. A new work can range from a solo instrument or vocalist, to a piece for symphony orchestra, and can last anywhere from one minute to five hours (or more). You may even be surprised to know that a new commission can cost as little as $25 or as much as $100,000. All you have to do is know 1. Which instruments you want to play the new piece, 2. How long you want the piece to be, 3. How to contact the composer you want to write your new piece.
